Three Days. Three General Sessions. Plenty to Think About.

Some of the most memorable moments at the NFDA International Convention & Expo happen when the entire profession comes together in one room. This year’s General Sessions will challenge you to think about the connections that strengthen funeral service, the changes reshaping your business and the meaning behind the work you do every day.

The 2026 NFDA International Convention & Expo, October 25-28 in Charlotte, North Carolina, features three thought-provoking General Sessions designed to inform, inspire and send you home with fresh perspectives.

Opening General Session: Connection, Collaboration and Strategy in a World of Disruption

Monday, October 26

Monday morning begins with a look at the power of connection from two NFDA leaders. In Leading with Connection: Engaging the Communities You Serve, NFDA CEO Christine Pepper will explore how changing consumer expectations, digital communication and emerging technologies are creating new opportunities for funeral homes to build stronger, more authentic relationships with the people they serve. She’ll also offer a first look at International Remembering A Life Week, launching in spring 2027.

Then, NFDA President Daniel J. Ford, CFSP, CCSP, will reflect on a year of listening, collaboration and service in Stronger Together: A Year of Listening, Collaboration and Service. He’ll share lessons from his travels and conversations throughout the profession and consider how stronger relationships among NFDA, state associations, members and industry partners can help funeral service navigate the future together.

The morning culminates with business strategist and bestselling author Shawn Kanungo, who will turn the focus to disruption and change. As technology, consumer expectations and workplace dynamics continue to evolve, Kanungo will challenge attendees to rethink traditional approaches to innovation, leadership and customer experience while offering practical strategies to help funeral homes remain relevant and competitive.

Kanugo’s keynote address is sponsored by NGL.

General Session: The Power of Gathering with Purpose

Tuesday, October 27

CEO, business coach and author Dr. Magie Cook will explore what happens when people come together around a shared sense of purpose. She’ll challenge attendees to identify what truly fuels their passion and aligns with their values—and demonstrate how gathering around that purpose can strengthen leadership, deepen trust and expand the impact individuals and organizations can make.

Cook’s keynote address is sponsored by Clearpoint Bank.

Closing General Session: 28,000 Days: What Death Teaches Us About Truly Living

Wednesday, October 28

New York Times bestselling author John Kenney will close Convention with a moving and often humorous reflection on mortality, meaning and the profound lessons funeral professionals witness every day. Drawing from his writing about grief, funerals and the human experience, Kenney reminds us that if the average life spans roughly 28,000 days, each one deserves to be lived with purpose.

Kenney’s keynote address is sponsored by Carriage.

Of course, the General Sessions are just one part of the Convention experience. Attendees can earn up to 16 hours of continuing education, explore 300+ exhibitors at the world’s largest funeral service Expo, reconnect with colleagues from around the globe and enjoy four days of learning, innovation and connection in Charlotte.

Convention is almost here! If you haven’t registered, now is the time to make your plans for Charlotte.
