Lucas Family Funeral Homes (Grapevine) recently completed a leadership transition that marks a new chapter in the company’s rich family history. Jim Lucas, fifth-generation owner and chief operating officer, has stepped back from day-to-day operations after more than half a century of compassionate service. Ownership has been passed to the sixth-generation leader of the family, James N. “Jimmy” Lucas Jr.
“This transition represents both a continuation of our family’s deep commitment to serving our communities and a strong step forward,” said Jim Lucas. “Jimmy brings with him not only the values we hold dear but also new energy, vision and dedication to the families we serve.”
Jim Lucas will continue to serve in an active role as senior advisor, providing support, guidance and continuity during this important evolution in the company’s leadership.
With experience in all facets of funeral home operations, Jimmy Lucas Jr. has been an integral part of the family business for more than 25 years. He holds a degree in social work from Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service.
Professionally, Lucas Jr. is a board member of the Cremation Association of North America, trustee of the Funeral Service Foundation and past president of the Texas Funeral Directors Association. He also was selected as the 2024 Texas Funeral Director of the Year.
In addition, he is an advisory board member for software company Passare; commentator on “The Graveyard Shift” podcast; and member of two professional study groups, The Death Care Management Council and The Council.
Said Lucas Jr.: “My dad has rightfully set the bar and expectations of service extremely high. It’s a sacred trust and a great honor to be given the opportunity to continue our family’s legacy of service to our community. Dad has been, and will continue to be, a great mentor, inspiration and support as we continue to serve.”
Currently, across five counties, the Lucas family operates 13 locations and two crematories, and manages three local cemeteries. Altogether, the family business employs 120 full- and part-time workers. lucasfuneralhomes.com
