On May 8, Busch Funeral and Crematory Service (Cleveland) held its second annual Nurse Memorial Service in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard. The service, in observance of National Nurses Week, provided an opportunity to honor the dedication and contributions of these healthcare heroes. The event also included a heartfelt tribute to the nurses who died during the past year.
The Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard was founded by Barb Hertrick and Vanessa Ryks in January 2022. Donning white scrubs, caps and capes, dedicated volunteers perform the group’s Nightingale Tribute at the funerals and memorial services of fallen nurses. This powerful ceremony, similar to military funeral honors, formally recognizes a nurse’s service and releases them from their duties with respect and dignity.
Shared Ryks: “Nurses give so much to others, and through our ceremonies, we offer a chance for family and friends to witness this noble spirit being recognized. The final call for duty, ‘We will take over from here,’ underscores the unity and respect shared among those who dedicate their lives to the care of others.” buschcares.com
