Larkin Mortuary (Salt Lake City) was recently honored with the Distinguished Service Award from Caring Connections, an affiliate organization of The University of Utah College of Nursing.
Larkin’s partnership with Caring Connections began more than 15 years ago and has grown into a significant collaboration. The mortuary has championed a grief-literacy initiative to help the community better understand how to support those who are grieving or experiencing loss. Also, the firm has sponsored trainings for homecare, hospice and mental health professionals across Utah.
In addition, Larkin makes sure that no one is turned away from grief support groups due to lack of funds. About 25% of Caring Connections’ participants do not have the resources to pay the enrollment fee for groups. In response to this need, Larkin created a scholarship fund that covers the cost of participation. This has allowed Caring Connections to run support groups at little to no cost to participants while also improving access to bereavement care across the state.
“The Larkin family takes pride in being a family business and in carrying on a long-standing Larkin family tradition of community service and giving,” said Rob Larkin, president of Larkin Mortuary. “This is a legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation, and we are so grateful to be beneficiaries of that legacy of service.” LarkinMortuary.com
