The International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards (The Conference) is seeking licensed funeral directors and embalmers to serve on its Job Task Analysis (JTA) Committee. Applications must be submitted by July 27, 2026.

The committee plays a critical role in ensuring the National Board Examination reflects the realities of today’s funeral service profession. Every five to seven years, The Conference conducts a nationwide Job Task Analysis to identify the knowledge, skills and tasks that are most important in current practice. Those findings are then used to update the National Board Examination blueprint, helping ensure the exam measures the competencies new licensees need to enter the profession.

The Conference is looking for practitioners who are willing to share their expertise and perspectives. Previous exam development experience is not required, and travel expenses for committee meetings are covered. Committee members will collaborate with fellow funeral service professionals from across the country to help develop the survey that serves as the foundation for future exam content.

To be eligible, volunteers must:

• Have passed both the Arts and Sciences sections of the National Board Examination.
• Be currently licensed and in good standing as both a funeral director and embalmer.
• Be comfortable using a laptop, the internet and Zoom.
• Be able to communicate effectively in person and remotely.
• Commit to attending in-person meetings October 13-15, 2026, and April 20-21, 2027.
• Be willing to sign a nondisclosure agreement and maintain exam security.

The Conference encourages practitioners from a variety of backgrounds and practice settings to apply in order to build a committee that reflects the diversity of today’s funeral service profession.
