The CPC designation has been the national standard of excellence in preplanning since 1997. This course is based on the CPC Standards Manual, which candidates receive for study in advance of the seminar. The program covers funeral preplanning principles, the FTC Funeral Rule, ethics in preplanning, funding options, contract standards, listening skills, marketing principles, customer service excellence, consultative sales, and creating meaningful funeral ceremonies.
There are two ways to earn the CPC designation: attend a CPC Seminar or complete the Correspondence Option. The CPC seminar is a mix of lecture and discussion to prepare candidates for the two-hour CPC certification exam, which has been developed and is graded by an independent national testing company. Candidates take the exam on the final morning of the seminar. The Correspondence Option allows candidates to study at home and then take the certification exam with a local NFDA-approved proctor.
