Funeral directors from across the nation sent letters to Congress requesting that they include the Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts (BRAVE) Act in the next coronavirus relief package.
Your efforts made a difference but we need you to continue to advocate for our nation’s veterans and this important legislation.
Currently, veterans who die in a VA facility are provided greater funeral benefits than veterans who die in their home or another non-VA hospital. Passage of the BRAVE Act will ensure all non-service-connected deaths are treated equally, regardless of where the veteran dies.
On May 5, the bill’s co-sponsors – Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), a former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL); and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who continues to serve his country as a pilot in the Air National Guard, with the current rank of Lieutenant Colonel – sent a letter to Congressional leaders calling for the inclusion of the BRAVE Act in the next Coronavirus Relief Package.
Peters previously testified in support of the BRAVE Act at a Senate Veteran Affairs Committee hearing. Department of Veterans Affairs Undersecretary for Benefits Dr. Paul Lawrence has expressed the VA’s support for the BRAVE Act.
Show your support for our nation’s veterans by sending a special Memorial Day message to your members of Congress asking them to support passage of the BRAVE Act. Doing so is easy – we even have a pre-written message you can send.
