Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Policy Board met on July 14 in Napa Valley, Calif., and elected Alec S. Anderson, CFSP, and Stephen R. Kemp, CFSP, to serve as at-large representatives on the association's Executive Board. They will begin two-year terms of service immediately following the 2014 NFDA International Convention & Expo, October 12-15 in Nashville, Tenn.
Anderson is a fifth generation funeral director and is co-owner and manager of Anderson & Sons Mortuary in American Fork, Utah. Anderson has been an active leader with the Utah Funeral Directors Association, serving on numerous committees and on its board of directors; his board service included a term as president.
Anderson currently serves as Utah's representative to the NFDA Policy Board. In addition, his national service includes service on the NFDA Professional Development, Governance, and Federated Insurance Safety & Risk Management Committees. Anderson & Sons Mortuary is a five-time recipient of the NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award. Anderson is an active NFDA PAC fundraiser and contributor.
Kemp is the president and manager of Haley Funeral Directors in Southfield, Mich. Following a career as a research associate at the Henry Ford Heart and Vascular Institute, VA Medical Center and Biosan Laboratories, he earned his mortuary science degree from Wayne State University and began serving families.
Kemp has been an engaged leader with the Michigan Funeral Directors Association (MFDA). He has served on numerous committees, as well as the association's board of directors. Kemp was the first African-American president in MFDA's 125-year history. He has served as an instructor and clinical preceptor at Wayne State.
Kemp currently serves as his state's representative to the NFDA Policy Board. His national volunteerism also includes service on the NFDA Professional Development and Advocacy Committees and the Environmental Workgroup. He has been invited to lead workshops during the NFDA International Convention & Expo on embalming and risk management.
Anderson and Kemp will replace current at-large representatives, Randy Anderson, CFSP, CCO, of Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City, Ala., and Kenneth A. Cahall, CFSP, CCO, of Cahall Funeral Homes Inc. in Georgetown, Ohio, who will complete their terms of service at the NFDA Convention in October.
NFDA Officer Elections
The NFDA House of Delegates will elect the 2014-15 secretary, treasurer and president-elect when it meets during the 2014 NFDA International Convention & Expo in Nashville, Tenn.
Robert C. "Rob" Moore IV, CFSP, CCO, of Moore's Home for Funerals in Wayne, N.J., is currently serving as NFDA president-elect. He will automatically assume the role of NFDA president following the 2014 Convention, serving a one-year term.
