The NFDA Advocacy Summit, April 26-28, is fast approaching! Funeral service professionals from across the country are preparing to storm Capitol Hill to educate members of Congress about how legislation they are considering will impact small businesses, the profession, and the families you serve.
In particular, NFDA members will advocate for the passage of the BRAVE Act of 2017 (H.R. 1212), which would increase the amount payable through the Department of Veterans Affairs for burial and funeral expenses for certain veterans.
Whether you’re attending the Advocacy Summit or not, there is a simple and powerful way you can support efforts for increasing the funeral and burial benefits for veterans using the power of a social media Thunderclap. Thunderclaps are used by celebrities, corporations and causes to promote global humanitarian efforts and raise awareness for issues ranging from preventing the spread of disease to celebrating organizations’ anniversaries.
When you sign up for Thunderclap, you give safe, one-time access to your social media channels (Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr) to post a message on your behalf. This will enable funeral professionals throughout the country to share a united message on the same date and the same time about the importance of ensuring our nation’s heroes can have a dignified funeral and burial.
Sign up to participate via Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr and on the morning of April 27, we will send a strong message to members of Congress and consumers that #FuneralServiceSupportsVeterans.
In order for NFDA’s Thunderclap to take place, at least 100 people and/or organizations must sign up to participate, so please share this information with your fellow funeral service professionals so that we can truly send a unified message that #FuneralServiceSupportsVeterans!
According to Thunderclap, Facebook business pages cannot support campaigns (see: https://help.thunderclap.it/hc/en-us/articles/235452287-Can-my-organization-s-Facebook-page-support-a-Thunderclap-).
As an alternative, on April 27 at 10am ET, you can post the official campaign graphic (download it here) and the official campaign message: Urge Congress to support the BRAVE Act to increase funeral benefits for veterans. #FuneralServiceSupportsVeterans http://thndr.me/R5sfli
In fact, if you have a business page on Facebook, you can schedule your post to appear on April 27 at 10 a.m. ET so you don't forget! Simply click the arrow next to "Publish" and select "Schedule."
If your business has a profile on Twitter, just log in with the appropriate credentials and Thunderclap will automatically post the campaign graphic and message on April 27.
