On May 18, the Department of Labor (DOL) released the long-anticipated final rules defining overtime exemption requirements, including guaranteed salary requirements for white collar exemptions for executive, administrative, professional and highly compensated employees. These new rules, which go into effect on December 1, will present many challenges for small businesses such as funeral homes.
There are two bills before Congress - S. 2707 and H.R. 4773 - that would block the current DOL update of the overtime rules and require the agency to do a more quantitative study before making any new rules updating the exemption.
NFDA urges you to contact your elected officials and ask them to support these bills. NFDA has the text of an email or letter already prepared; all you need to do is customize it, if you wish, and send it out.
The collective voice of NFDA's members makes a big difference. It only takes a moment to ask your members of Congress to act on behalf of funeral service professionals and small business owners.
