After graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1996, Vafaei worked for Smith-Corcaran Funeral Home in Chicago for 12 years. She then moved to Danville and worked at Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Home before starting her own business in 2009. She was a member of NFDA and the Vermilion County Funeral Directors Association. She is survived by a son.
