Frederick William Meyer Jr.
former funeral home and cemetery owner/developer, died January 1, 2010, at age 85. After college, Meyer entered the cemetery business, and from 1953-2004, he owned and developed funeral homes and cemeteries throughout the Midwest and South. He was a charter member and first president of the Pre-Arrangement Interment Association of America and a past president of the Indiana Cemetery Association and the Cemetery Association of Tennessee. He was affiliated with the National Association of Cemeteries, the American Cemetery Association and the Directors Club of Great Britain. Meyer also served as an ambassador to Sen. Vance Hartke and the U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. As such, he traveled throughout the world visiting national cemeteries and providing his expert knowledge on maintaining the highest standards for veterans’ final resting places.
He is survived by daughter Nancy; sons Fred, James and Thomas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother.
