The statistics and projections released by CANA show some interesting cremation trends
The Cremation Association of North America (CANA) released its cremation statistics and projections during its 1998 convention. With permission from CANA, The Director reprinted these statistics in Consumers have Spoken—The statistics and projections released by CANA show some interesting cremation trends. The article includes charts highlighting the percent increase in cremations to deaths in 1997 over 1996 by geographical region, a breakdown of cremated remains disposition from 1996 to 1997, state percent cremation projections for 2000 and 2010, and the top and bottom five states in percentage of cremations to deaths.
The article was compiled by Howard C. Raether, who served as NFDA executive director from 1948 to 1983, and has authored numerous books and articles on funeral service topics during a career spanning more than 50 years in funeral service. Since his retirement, Raether has served as a consultant to NFDA as well as numerous funeral service companies.
