The Horns of a Dilemma
Test your ethical responses to these real-world cases
The spectrum of complicated situations that can happen in funeral service is endless. Even the most scrupulous funeral directors can find themselves faced with an ethical dilemma. To help funeral service professionals make ethical decisions in difficult situations, the Funeral Ethics Association (FEA), a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1994.
The Horns of a Dilemma—Test your ethical responses to these real-world cases, written by Robert W. Ninker, FEA's executive director, includes two examples of ethical dilemmas taken from FEA s files. Test your ethical standards by reading the circumstances of each case and deciding how you would react if faced with these situations.
The FEA is always available to assist licensed funeral directors in resolving ethical issues. If you face an ethical dilemma related to funeral service or would like to learn more about FEA, call 217-525-2074 or e-mail
