Building Funeral Service Curriculum with Task Analysis: The University of Minnesota Project

To successfully train students to be qualified funeral service professionals, mortuary schools much create comprehensive curriculums. The list of requirements for school curriculums must comply with is quite extensive and includes accrediation requirements from the American Board of Funeral Service Education, requirements imposed by state licensing boards, liberal education requirements and other degree requirements. The success of a school's curriculum tends to be based on National Board Examination scores. The article includes survey results. John Kroshus is an assistant professor and director of the mortuary science program at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He has been active in funeral service for more than 20 years as both a practicing funeral director and as a funeral service educator.
