Never Assume
Because of the way she touched the lives of others, a 14-year-old named Anne showed everyone the nature of a meaningful tribute
As I pulled out of my driveway, what seemed like a beautiful, summer day suddenly became a nightmare. A shrill whistle caused me to look in my rearview mirror. My neighbor, Jim, with a coffee mug in one hand, was waving and running toward my car. Lowering the window I asked, “What’s up?”
Casting his coffee mug on to the lawn, he said, “Anne’s dead!”
At that moment, I felt as helpless as any of our clients feel when confronted with the reality of death.
In Ernie Heffner’s article, Never Assume, he discusses a very personal funeral that he arranged of Anne B. Selway, a 14-year-old neighbor of his who tragically passed away, and the lessons he learned during that time. This article shows how important a meaningful tribute service truly is. Heffner owns and operates the Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory in York, Pennsylvania.
