OSHA Versus Funeral Service
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the vast majority of funeral home owners and managers share a common interest. That is to provide a safe working environment for funeral home employees. Yet many funeral service professionals perceive OSHA as an opponent, rather than a partner.
OSHA, whiuch is often viewed as having excessive authority to change workplace practices, only desires to improve working conditions. The time has come for OSHA and the funeral service industry to create an understanding between one another. Through education and teamwork, a better relationship can be built, which will in turn benefitall funeral service professionals.
OSHA Versus Funeral Service, written by Jay Burnside, president and chief inspector for Professional Compliance Incorporated, offers 10 pieces of advice that funderal service professionals, funeral home owners and managers can do to work in partnership with OSHA during and OSHA inspection of the funeral home. Burnside is also NFDA's OSHA Support Line consultant and has been a partner and major contributor to NFDA's OSHA Satellite Seminar.
