If the number of people choosing to have their loved one embalmed is decreasing at a rate of about 1% to 1.5% a year, why must 100% of all funeral directors learn the art of embalming? Instead, perhaps the responsibilities of a funeral director should be divided into funeral arranging and body preparation, and every state should offer separate licensure for the two roles.
