Every day, in cities and towns across America, funeral directors are helping families honor the lives of our nation’s veterans.
For many years, the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) has worked with Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure that veterans can be buried or interred with honor and dignity befitting their sacrifice.
Congress currently is considering the BRAVE Act of 2017 (H.R. 1212 / S. 1596), which was introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and is co-sponsored by a bi-partisan coalition: Rep. James McGovern (D-MA); Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO); Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL); Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI); Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-PA).
This bill would:
- Improve existing benefits for veterans meeting eligibility requirements
- Ensure all non-service connected veteran deaths are treated equally, regardless of where a veteran dies
- Index all three benefits for inflation, alleviating the need for further adjustments from Congress

On April 26 and 27, NFDA member funeral directors from throughout the country will be on Capitol Hill meeting with their elected senators and representatives and asking them to support and pass the BRAVE Act of 2017.
NFDA and its members urge all Americans who value the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes to join them in asking members of Congress to support and pass the BRAVE Act of 2017.
